Lets Talk.

Your Target Audience is an Individual

Whether you are creating content as part of a content marketing strategy or coming up with advertisements, you need to think about your target audience. Not only do you need to consider your target audience, it helps to think about your target audience as an individual. Create a detailed analysis of your demographic as an individual. Write down his or her average age, geographical location, occupation and income level, and any other specifics that you think may help. Basically, you are creating a concept of an individual that would be interested in your products or services. When you are writing or generating original content, write to this individual, not a group of people.

Determine How Your Customers Use the Internet

With a complete analysis of your demographic complete, the next step is to determine how your customers use the internet. Spend time finding out which online communities they are often a part of, what social media platforms they prefer to use, which magazines and websites they visit regularly. Knowing these items will help you decide where to reach your potential customers. Become a part of any communities where your customers congregate and become more active with the social media platforms that they prefer using.

Make a List of Concerns and Comments

By becoming more active online in the locations where your customers can be found, you can start noticing their common concerns. Make a list of issues that these customers want addressed that are relevant to your products or services. Add to this list any other comments or commonly mentioned information that you find relevant.

Perform Keyword Research

After performing those first three steps, you should have a better understanding of your customers. With this understanding, it is time to begin keyword research. Take your list that you create and highlight target keywords. Use these keywords to perform keyword research. Using Google Adwords or another online tool for finding average searches for specific keywords, enter each keyword phrase from your list and create a new list of keywords with the most searches and least amount of competition.

Use these keywords in titles, descriptions, and the body of the content that you create. In order to have more effective SEO for your small business, you need to start with a good understanding of your customers. From there, you can generate a list of keywords and perform keyword research. Keep these keywords in mind whenever you create content and soon you should start seeing an increase in traffic to your small business website.
